An over-bed rack carries ladders, lumber, pipe and conduit above the bed, so the bed underneath stays usable. Two mounting choices decide most of it. Clamp-on racks grip the bed rails and need no holes drilled, which matters on a leased truck or one you plan to sell; bolt-on racks fasten to the bed and take heavier daily loads.
