Description

The Yakima FrontLoader Upright Rooftop Bike Rack provides a reliable solution for transporting a single bike on your vehicle's roof without touching the bike frame. This rack is suitable for a wide range of cyclists, from mountain and road riders to families with kids' bikes. Its design eliminates frame contact, helping preserve your bike’s painted finish during transport.

Compatibility is a key strength of the FrontLoader. The universal clamp fits most factory and aftermarket crossbars, including brands like Yakima, Thule, Malone, Rhino-Rack, and RockyMounts, without the need for additional adapters. It accommodates wheel sizes ranging from 20" up to 29" and 700c, and works with bikes featuring disc brakes, thru-axles, and suspension forks. Weight capacity reaches up to 40 pounds on crossbars spaced 18" or more apart, and 30 pounds for narrower 16" spacing.

Loading your bike is straightforward thanks to the tool-free installation and adjustable wheel tray that easily adapts to different bike lengths. The rack securely holds your bike in place with an integrated cable lock system, while optional Yakima SKS lock cores (sold separately) can secure both the bike and the rack itself for added peace of mind.

Constructed to offer consistent performance and durability, the FrontLoader is ideal for riders who want a simple, frame-friendly rooftop bike carrier offering compatibility, security, and ease-of-use, making it a reliable choice for a variety of bike transport needs.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find the answer you're looking for? Reach out to our customer support team.

I have two FrontLoader bike racks on my roof rack currently, but when I try to load my mountain bikes the the handlebars make contact with each other and I am not able to load one of the bikes properly. Is it safe to mount the rack backwards and carry a bike with the rear of the bike facing the front of my vehicle?
There should be no problem mounting the rack backwards and transporting the bike in that position. This is a more common issue than you might think with the wider bars found on modern mountain bikes. Many owners of roof mounted bike trays mount them backwards to squeeze a third bike on the roof.
Is the cable lock on the FrontLoader usable without purchasing Yakima Lock Cores?
Without the Yakima SKS Lock Cores the lockable cable on the FrontLoader doesn't have much purpose unfortunately. It certainly is possible to route the cable through the frame of your bike, but it wouldn't offer any security without a lock inserted to engage the mechanism in the cable.
