Factory Raised Rail Roof Racks

Raised rails run front to back with a visible gap between the rail and the roof, enough to pass your hand under. Older SUVs, wagons and crossovers use them, and they are the easiest roof to fit: the rack clamps around the rail itself, so in most cases you need no vehicle-specific fit kit at all and the same system moves to your next car.

The things that still matter are rail shape and spread. Some rails are round, some are flattened ovals, and a few taper at the ends, which changes where the feet can sit and how far apart the bars can go. Check the usable straight section of your rail before ordering long bars.
