Truck Ladder Racks

An over-bed rack carries ladders, lumber, pipe and conduit above the bed, so the bed underneath stays usable. Two mounting choices decide most of it. Clamp-on racks grip the bed rails and need no holes drilled, which matters on a leased truck or one you plan to sell; bolt-on racks fasten to the bed and take heavier daily loads. Aluminum racks from System One, Thule TracRac and Vantech cut weight and do not rust; steel costs less and takes abuse.

Check three things before ordering: bed length, whether your truck already wears a tonneau cover the rack has to clear, and how much you actually carry, since capacity runs from a couple of hundred pounds to 1,250.
