Once a cap or topper is on the truck, the bed rails are underneath it and a standard over-bed rack has nothing to grip. A cap rack mounts to the shell itself, usually through reinforced tracks or clamps that spread the load across the cap's frame rather than its fibreglass. That is the part worth getting right: a rack fitted to the cap carries ladders and lumber safely, while the wrong hardware cracks a shell that costs more than the rack.

"My husband needed to buy a new roof rack for a truck he recently purchased and was told to get a System One brand that makes the racks from aluminium (so it doesnt rust).
